Batik Artist Statement
For this semester I choose my Batik project. What I like the most about this project was that I never really knew how my butterfly would actually turn out. What was hard about this project was the waxing and time management, the more I got into the project the harder it was to keep track of time. What I had trouble with was the dye. I often I had trouble with what color should the background be and in the end it turned out great. What I like the most about this piece is the overall picture, I love the color on the butterfly. I somewhat knew what to do with the butterfly, and it would have been really different if I had not ask our Artist in Residence, Victoria, who give some idea on what to do with the butterfly and I used some of her idea and mine and combine them and got my butterfly, so I was really glad I asked her. I loved the color in the background. It makes the butterfly pop out instead of blending in with the background.
What I love about the over project was that at the beginning I sucked at waxing and would always mess up, but the more I practice, the better I got and I had fun doing it, because at the beginning it was frustrating. At the beginning I was like, I don’t like doing this, but at the end I was like dang I wish we had more time, because it was more fun than I thought. I am definitely going to miss the smell of wax. Batiking was fun and I had an awesome time and I especially love my piece.
I also added my second project, which wasn't as good as the butter fly because, I didn't really have enough time, but it turned out kind of okay, even though I had little time. What I like about this one is the background and the orange, which really makes the center POP!.
